Head Teacher – Inspired Directions School

Inspire supports young people to create a positive future for themselves. Inspired Directions School, our alternative provision, supports 15 young people aged 14-16 who have found it difficult to engage with mainstream education. Our work enables young people to believe in themselves, gain qualifications and build a positive pathway for their future.

Our school is a small, welcoming space and our values are individualism, progression and community, and our curriculum is enhanced by work-related learning and work experience. Developing students’ employability and enterprise skills, we offer a clear, supported pathway into relevant further education or training at 16. Our long-term aim is to equip each young person with the essential skills to secure employment or a place on a training or education course at 18.

Inspired Directions Schools is part of Inspire, a Hackney-based charity that connects young people with the world of work. With over 1,000 employer and school partnerships, we can find work placements for students, giving them the best chance of succeeding in their chosen career. These connections also mean we can offer our team members mentors from a variety of settings, including from other schools in Hackney, Camden and Islington.

Working in a small school can be incredibly rewarding and this role allows the Headteacher to take responsibility for leading the school whilst being managed by the Chief Executive of Inspire and supported by the school governors.  The Headteacher is responsible for the education of pupils, management of school staff and financial sustainability of the school, with the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive responsible for the operations and overall sustainability of the school within the organisation.  This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead a small school with the focus of the role being on the pupils and education.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in managing high-performing teams and developing excellent working relationships within an education setting. Due to the nature of the role, you must be educated to degree level or equivalent, and possess a Teaching qualification.  You must be enthusiastic, professional and resilient, you will thrive in a busy environment and have a talent for empowering students to embrace learning.
