Professional development seminar for Travel and Tourism Diploma

Inspire! arranges a variety of professional development opportunities for school/college managers and staff to enable them to:

  • keep abreast of developments in the workplace so that they can prepare their students accordingly
  • gain an insight into the way that a particular subject is applied in an industry environment
  • obtain a better understanding of the range of roles and progression routes within an industry or business sector
  • gather ideas and resources for use in the classroom
  • exchange ideas and interact with senior managers from the business world

 Examples of recent work

Workshops, seminars and tours in a range of business settings and environments to support the introduction of the new 14-19 Diplomas. Hosts included the Old Bailey, UBS, Linklaters, Museum of London, Thin Martian and SHCA.

‘Inspired Leaders’: Leadership course for 20 Headteachers and senior managers from local schools and industry. A residential weekend included interaction with the French Ambassador, human rights campaigner, Peter Tatchell and Michael Cassidy, Chair of Homerton University Hospital and the Museum of London. There were also opportunities to meet the principals of major companies/organisations to examine different leadership styles and attitudes to change. Delegates applied elements of what they learned to a personal challenge or issue and a ‘buddy’ system pairing teachers with business people facilitated the exchange of ideas and experiences.

“The programme has been inspirational in lots of ways. Working with people outside of my sector has been quite amazing. I’ve learnt masses. The course grabbed me from day one.”

“It was useful to visit the various areas in UBS and learn about the types of career available. Also learning about the important points that are needed to ‘shine’ at an interview – useful because of being better informed to help students get into ‘city’ jobs”

“An informative experience and an eye opener for teachers who have never worked in the City”

“I would recommend that any teacher aiming to teach Unit 6 SHD or any criminal justice content experience this visit. Highly educational”.
