Charles Russell Speechlys sponsor St Alban’s Primary’s first Work Week

31.01.2018 17:38

St Alban’s C of E Primary School in Camden took part in Work Week for the first time this month. The school’s involvement was generously sponsored by law firm Charles Russell Speechlys, whose employees also supported the programme by volunteering their time.

Work Week aims to develop children’s awareness of the world of work, increase their understanding of a variety of occupations and challenge career stereotypes. Each year group in the school focused on a different work-related theme, including emergency services, money matters and enterprise.

Highlights of the week included a Dragons’ Den event hosted at Charles Russell Speechlys’ City office. A Year 6 class became entrepreneurs for the week, working in teams to invent a business and pitch it to the panel of volunteer ‘Dragons’ in a bid to win investment. Meanwhile, Year 5 learnt about the world of fashion, designing their own ethical clothing products and showcasing them in front of industry professionals. In KS1, Year 2 learnt about jobs in the community, taking on the role of a postal worker in an exciting visit to The Postal Museum.

The week was a great success with pupils throughout the school, with visits from volunteers and to workplaces bringing the world of work to life. The children shared what they had discovered during the week, with one Year 6 pupil learning that “being a boy doesn’t stop me from being a nurse,” and a Year 4 pupil learning “how English and Maths help with jobs.”

“We are really pleased with the success of Work Week. We have spoken with the Head at St Albans and she would be happy to continue with the initiative again next year.” said Nasima, CSR Administrator at Charles Russell Speechlys.

We would like to thank Charles Russell Speechlys for enabling St Alban’s C of E Primary School to take part in Work Week and for providing inspiring employee volunteers. If your school or business would like to get involved, you can find out more about Work Week or contact us here.
